Filipinos celebrate Chinese New Year because of the strong influence of the Chinese-Filipino community in the country. Many Chinese traditions, such as giving ang pao (red envelopes), eating Tikoy (sticky rice cake), and watching dragon dances, have become part of Filipino culture. People also believe that following these traditions can bring good luck, prosperity, and happiness for the coming year. Since Filipinos value these beliefs, they happily take part in the celebrations, even if they are not Chinese.
The Philippine government also recognizes Chinese New Year as a special non-working holiday, so more people can join in the festivities. Many businesses, especially those owned by Chinese-Filipino families, celebrate this occasion because of its cultural and economic importance. The event is fun and exciting, with fireworks, food, and colorful performances, making it a celebration that many Filipinos look forward to every year.
